Queens, NY – A quiet residential block in Queens turned into a crime scene Monday afternoon when a man allegedly set fire to a home, killing an elderly couple inside, police said.
The victims were identified as Frank Olton, 76, and Maureen Olton, 77, who lived at 87-86 254 Street. According to investigators, an unidentified man entered their home around 3:21 p.m. and deliberately started a fire.
Firefighters from the FDNY responded and were able to extinguish the flames, but both victims were found dead inside the residence. Emergency medical services pronounced them deceased at the scene.
The New York City Police Department released a description of the suspect: a male with a dark complexion, believed to be between 30 and 40 years old, of medium build. He was last seen wearing a black hat, a black jacket, blue jeans, and black sneakers.
The incident is being investigated as a double homicide. Detectives from the 105th Precinct are asking anyone with information to come forward as the search for the suspect intensifies.
