Elmsford Police Officer Accused of Theft on Duty

WHITE PLAINS, NY – Douglas Ramirez, a 44-year-old officer from the Elmsford Police Department, has been charged with the theft of over $15,000.

The Westchester County District Attorney, Miriam E. Rocah, confirmed that the money was turned into the Elmsford Police Department while Ramirez was on duty.

On July 27, around 3:00 p.m., Ramirez allegedly accepted a sealed package at the department’s front desk. Upon opening it, he is accused of taking the $15,500 inside. Ramirez, a resident of Mahopac, New York, was arrested on August 29 by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office and subsequently placed on administrative leave by his department.

He was recently arraigned in Elmsford Village Court before Judge Jay S. Beilat, facing charges of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree and Official Misconduct.

His next court appearance is scheduled for October 25. The case is overseen by Public Integrity and Law Enforcement Integrity Deputy Bureau Chief Jennifer Sculco and Assistant District Attorney Renee Hassel.
