Before this week, few sports fans in America knew who Jemele Hill was. That changed after she went on a racist tirade against President Donald Trump on the anniversary of 9/11.
The ESPN Sports Center co-host is under fire today for a Tweet she published calling President Donald Trump and everyone around him white supremacists. Hill’s racially charged attack was preceded by another post about white privilege.
“Donald Trump is a white supremacist who has largely surrounded himself w/ other white supremacists,” Hill tweeted. “He has surrounded himself with white supremacists — no they are not “alt right” — and you want me to believe he isn’t a white supremacist?”
“He is unqualified and unfit to be president. He is not a leader. And if he were not white, he never would have been elected,” her babble continued. “Trump is the most ignorant, offensive president of my lifetime. His rise is a direct result of white supremacy. Period.”
A quick look at Hill’s Twitter feed shows her own racist, anti-white people tendencies, filled exclusively with photos of African Americans, only showing white people in a bad light through goofy and awkward memes. Then there’s that time white dude with no shoes and a dirty car picked her up for her Uber ride.
ESPN, a Disney affiliate network, didn’t appreciate Hill’s racist rant against the President and his staff.
“The comments on Twitter from Jemele Hill regarding the President do not represent the position of ESPN,” the network said. “We have addressed this with Jemele and she recognizes her actions were inappropriate.”
Now, when not getting put in her place by the network, she can be found on Twitter fighting with people who were probably once avid ESPN viewers, but like many have tired of the network and stopped watching because of their liberal bias and political injections over the past year. According to the August 2017 Nielsen ratings report, ESPN has lost 220,000 viewers since March. Most sports fans probably have never heard of Jemele Hill.
Petitions are now circulating online for the dismissal of Hill from the network.
“I lived nearly half my life beneath the poverty level. You never forget what that’s like,” she replied to one of her critics. She might soon get a reminder if she doesn’t realize ESPN is a sports network, not a political network. Perhaps she can find work over at MSNBC or the view where her racism and liberal ideology will go unnoticed, but also unpenalized.
