Federal court blocks Trump birthright citizenship order nationwide NJ AG applauds ruling

TRENTON, N.J. — New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin praised a federal court ruling Friday that issued a nationwide injunction blocking former President Donald Trump’s executive order targeting birthright citizenship.

The U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts reasserted its earlier decision, preventing the order from taking effect anywhere in the country. The ruling comes after New Jersey and other states challenged the constitutionality of the directive, arguing it violated the 14th Amendment.

“We are thrilled that the district court again barred President Trump’s flagrantly unconstitutional birthright citizenship order from taking effect anywhere,” Attorney General Platkin said in a statement. “American-born babies are American, just as they have been at every other time in our Nation’s history.”

The injunction ensures that children born in the United States to non-citizen parents will continue to be recognized as U.S. citizens under longstanding constitutional precedent.
