WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Local authorities are continuing to investigate unexplained drone activity reported in recent weeks, following a meeting Thursday between the Wall Township Police Department and the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security.
Police officials said the meeting provided an opportunity for collaboration on emerging drone-related issues but offered no new insights from state or federal partners regarding the origins of the drone sightings.
In a separate announcement, the U.S. State Department ruled out the involvement of foreign actors, dismissing rumors of drones linked to an “Iranian mothership” off the New Jersey coast. Federal officials confirmed that the drones do not pose a threat and have not violated restricted airspace around military installations.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy today mocked U.S. Congressman Jeff Van Drew who said he has reliable information regarding an Iranian ‘Mothership’ launching the drones in the ocean along the Jersey Shore.
Van Drew responded by claiming the government “isn’t telling the truth” when it comes to these drone sightings.
Despite the lack of new information, Wall Township police assured the public that they are taking proactive steps to address the issue. “We remain dedicated to staying ahead of emerging threats and working collaboratively to safeguard the people of Wall Township,” the department said in a statement.
Authorities urged residents to report any suspicious drone activity to the FBI, the Wall Township Police Department, or through an online federal tip portal. Investigators continue to monitor the situation.
