PHILADELPHIA, PA – A 20-year-old woman is in custody after striking a police officer with her car and fleeing during a traffic stop Friday afternoon.
The incident happened around 2:10 p.m. as officers conducted a Live Stop on a red 2007 Chrysler Sebring.
Police said the driver reversed into a police vehicle before accelerating forward and hitting an officer standing on the driver’s side.
Although the officer was not injured and no vehicle damage was reported, the driver sped away northbound on 6th Street.
Fleeing driver crashes and abandons vehicle
According to police, the same Chrysler was later found by 25th District officers on the 2800 block of North 8th Street, where it had been involved in a separate crash. Witnesses told investigators the woman ran from the scene on foot, heading south on 8th Street before turning west onto Somerset Street.
After an area search, the woman was located and taken into custody at Temple Women’s Hospital on East Wyoming Avenue.
Suspect faces multiple charges
Police confirmed the woman will face charges including assault on police and related offenses. No injuries were reported during the series of incidents.
Detectives continue to review body camera footage and collect witness statements as part of the investigation.
