CENTREVILLE, Md. — A house fire at 113 Frederick Drive in Centreville resulted in an estimated $13,000 in damages late Monday night. The fire, which occurred in a two-story, single-family residence owned by Bridget McCoy, was reported at 11:17 p.m. and was brought under control within 10 minutes by the Goodwill Fire Company.
The fire caused $10,000 in damage to the structure and an additional $3,000 to the contents inside. No injuries were reported, and the occupants were unharmed. The residence was equipped with a smoke alarm, which was activated during the incident, though no fire alarm or sprinkler system was present.
According to investigators, the fire originated on the first floor of the home. The preliminary cause has been determined to be accidental, with the fire igniting from a battery pack for an electric bike that was charging at the time.
Eight firefighters responded to the single-alarm fire, ensuring it was swiftly contained. “The owner discovered the fire, and quick action by the fire department limited the damage,” the fire department stated.
No arrests were made in connection with the incident, and the investigation remains ongoing.
