Fire rips through Galloway school classroom in freezing night blaze

Overnight fire damages classroom at Arthur Rann Elementary School in Galloway Township

Galloway Township, NJ – A classroom at Arthur Rann Elementary School went up in flames just after midnight on Monday, as freezing rain and icy road conditions complicated emergency response efforts to a structure fire that broke out on South 8th Avenue.

At approximately 12:03 a.m. on January 26, officers from the Galloway Township Police Department and several volunteer fire departments responded to reports of a fire at the school, called in by a nearby resident on Longfellow Court. Upon arrival, first responders observed smoke and flames coming from the building, with the fire originating in classroom #8.

Firefighters quickly worked to contain and extinguish the blaze, preventing it from spreading throughout the building. While classroom #8 sustained significant fire damage, adjacent classrooms experienced only minor damage, according to authorities.

Despite icy roads and cold weather, the coordinated efforts of local fire and emergency crews were credited with minimizing the impact of the fire. There were no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation but does not appear to be suspicious at this time.

The Galloway Township Police Department expressed gratitude to the Bayview, Oceanville, Pomona, and ACY Fire Departments, as well as Galloway EMS, the Office of Emergency Management, and the Absecon Police Department for their swift response.
