WOODBRIDGE, N.J. — Heavy flames tore through the roof of a three-story apartment building at Woodbridge Center Plaza early Saturday, forcing a multi-town fire response before crews brought the blaze under control with no reported injuries, officials said.
Firefighters from Woodbridge, Avenel, and Port Reading were dispatched to Plaza Drive, where they arrived to find significant fire already pushing through the roof of the multi-family structure, according to the Woodbridge Township Professional Firefighters Association.
Second Alarm Draws Regional Response
The intensity of the fire prompted a second alarm, bringing in additional companies from across the area to assist in suppression efforts.
Crews initially stretched multiple hose lines and attacked the fire from inside the building. As conditions worsened, firefighters shifted to exterior operations, using aerial ladder trucks to combat the flames from above.

Once the bulk of the fire was knocked down, teams re-entered the building to extinguish remaining hot spots and begin overhaul operations to prevent rekindling.
No Injuries Reported
Despite the scale of the fire and the number of responding units, no civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
Mutual aid support came from departments in Fords, Iselin (Stations 9 and 11), Colonia, Hopelawn, and Perth Amboy. Township EMS, Woodbridge Police, county and local mutual aid coordinators, and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members also assisted at the scene.
The Edison Fire Department provided coverage for Woodbridge while crews remained committed to the active fire.
