Firearm Seized After Traffic Stop in Dorchester

June 13, 2024

BOSTON, MA – A routine traffic stop led to a dramatic arrest on Tuesday night around 10:50 PM in the Dorchester area. Boston Police officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) apprehended 36-year-old Marvin Lafontant of Roslindale on multiple firearm charges.

The incident began when officers, patrolling near Columbia Road and Dudley Street, noticed a vehicle speeding. They initiated a traffic stop using emergency signals and successfully halted the vehicle at 4 Half Moon Street. During the stop, Lafontant, the driver, appeared nervous and was unable to provide complete documentation.

The situation escalated when Lafontant, after being asked to exit the vehicle, resisted a pat-down and attempted to flee, pushing officers in the process. Despite his efforts to escape and reach for an item in his waistband, officers subdued him after a brief struggle.

Upon securing Lafontant, police discovered a Smith & Wesson M&P BodyGuard hidden in a sock within his groin area. The firearm was loaded with one round in the chamber and five in the magazine, and it had an obliterated serial number.

Lafontant now faces charges including unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, defacement of a firearm serial number, two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, and resisting arrest. He is set to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
