FORT MYERS, FL – A 42-year-old man accused of shooting another man during a street altercation and then livestreaming the aftermath on social media has been arrested in Lee County, according to the sheriff’s office.
Gedeonson Hyacinthe was taken into custody Wednesday by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Warrants Unit in connection with an April 14 fatal shooting in the Pine Manor neighborhood. He faces charges of second-degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, and two counts of drug possession. He is being held without bond at the Lee County Jail.
Deputies responding to the April incident found Hyacinthe at the scene, standing over a man who had died from gunshot wounds. Hyacinthe told investigators at the time that a verbal dispute escalated into a physical confrontation.
Altercation escalated in Pine Manor intersection
According to the sheriff’s office, the confrontation began in an intersection in the Pine Manor community, where the two men argued before the situation turned physical. Investigators said the pair “tussled” before the victim was shot during the encounter.
Hyacinthe told deputies that the gun discharged during the fight. After the shooting, authorities say he took out his phone and began livestreaming from the roadway, discussing the incident and showing the active scene to viewers online.
He was initially detained and questioned by investigators, with the Major Crimes Unit taking over the case. Officials did not explain why Hyacinthe was not held in custody following that initial interview.
Arrest follows search by fugitive unit
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Hyacinthe was later located and arrested without incident on Wednesday. Authorities have not released the name of the victim.
Hyacinthe remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 17.
