HARRISBURG, PA — Attorney General Michelle Henry has confirmed the conviction of Theron Roberts, a former band director at Crestwood High School in Luzerne County, on charges of sexual assault against a student. The jury delivered a guilty verdict on Thursday afternoon, finding Roberts guilty of felony institutional sexual assault and corruption of minors, along with two misdemeanor counts of indecent assault.
The incidents, dating back to 2019, involved Roberts engaging in inappropriate conduct with a student, starting when the student was in seventh grade. The abuse escalated over time, with Roberts making unwelcome physical contact during individual band lessons and making comments about the victim’s personal relationships. The situation culminated with a more aggressive assault when Roberts pulled the victim into a secluded area, groped them, and issued threats to keep the incident secret.
Roberts, 41, is scheduled for sentencing on September 27. Attorney General Henry praised the jury’s diligence and commended the victim’s bravery in confronting their abuser in court, emphasizing the importance of accountability in positions of trust and authority.
