HACKENSACK, NJ – Authorities have arrested four men following a months-long investigation into a drive-by shooting in Hackensack, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced.
The suspects, identified as Quayyan R. Horton, 36, of Jersey City; Charles E. Kirkland, 36, of Newark; Nafee A. Horton, 33, of Newark; and Hakeem J. Jones, 30, of East Orange, were charged in connection with the June 25, 2024, shooting on Newman Street. The investigation was conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Hackensack Police Department.
Authorities determined that at approximately 6:10 p.m. on June 24, two vehicles approached a group of people gathered on Newman Street, and multiple shots were fired. A parked car was struck, but no injuries were reported.
Detectives later identified the suspect vehicles, linking one to Quayyan Horton and the other to an associate of Charles Kirkland. Investigators ultimately identified the four men as among five individuals responsible for the shooting.
On February 14, 2025, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Squad and the Hackensack Police Department arrested Quayyan Horton, Charles Kirkland, and Nafee Horton at separate residences in Jersey City and Newark. Search warrants were executed at each location, and the men were taken into custody at the Bergen County Jail, where they remain detained pending court proceedings.
