Frederick, MD – John Michael Hartman Jr., aged 43, was sentenced to 10 years in the Division of Corrections for his fifth DUI offense, resulting in a fatality. Judge Minner of Frederick County Circuit Court issued the sentence yesterday, adding that Hartman violated his probation from a 2020 second-degree assault charge and illegal firearm offenses.
The incident leading to Hartman’s conviction occurred on October 14, 2022, when Maryland State Police responded to a crash on Baltimore National Pike. Hartman’s vehicle collided with a car driven by Donald Reineke, age 89, who died from his injuries. Hartman admitted to consuming alcohol and using marijuana before driving, and his blood test registered above the legal alcohol limit.
Hartman was previously on probation, requiring total abstinence from alcohol due to past offenses, including a 2020 shooting incident. He was found guilty of 10 DUI-related charges on September 17. Judge Minner reinstated eight and a half years from Hartman’s 2020 conviction, to run concurrently with the new sentence.
