Shaquan Landrum, 34, of Hillside, was located by members of the U.S. Marshals Service NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force inside a home on Irvine Turner Boulevard near West Bigelow Street. The task force was assisting Newark’s Fugitive Apprehension Team in executing a warrant linked to a previous incident in Hillside.

Once inside the home, Landrum barricaded himself and began firing at officers, striking several objects including a police vehicle. Newark Police Officer Daniel Arias, part of the Emergency Services Unit, returned fire during the standoff, striking Landrum.

Landrum was taken to University Hospital in Newark for treatment and survived.

A search of the residence led to the recovery of a rifle and a ghost gun, a firearm without a serial number. No officers were injured during the incident.

Landrum has been charged by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office with attempted murder, weapons offenses including possession of an assault firearm and a ghost gun, and endangering the welfare of a child, among other charges. The investigation into the shooting remains active.
