Gas station stop turns into $300K win in Austintown

YOUNGSTOWN, OH — A recent Ohio transplant from New Jersey won the top prize of $300,000 playing the Ohio Lottery’s Special Edition Cashword scratch-off game.

The winner purchased the $5 ticket at Certified Oil #462, located at 825 North Canfield Niles Road in Austintown, after cashing in $15 in earlier winnings. She selected three tickets — numbers 45, 46, and 47 — with the final one delivering the game’s top prize.

Initially believing she had won $5,000, she double-checked using the Ohio Lottery mobile app, which confirmed the full $300,000 prize. She plans to use part of the money for a vacation and to treat her fiancé.

After taxes totaling 28 percent, she will receive $216,000.

Special Edition Cashword is a $5 scratch-off with a $300,000 top prize. As of Tuesday, three top prizes remain.
