BALTIMORE, MD — A 17-year-old male has been arrested following an armed carjacking that took place Monday afternoon in the 1100 block of Light Street in the city’s Southern District.

At approximately 3:24 p.m. on July 14, officers responded to the scene, where a woman told police she had briefly left her vehicle running while going into a nearby bank, leaving her son inside. According to the victim, a suspect arrived in a black Hyundai Elantra, exited that vehicle, entered hers, assaulted her son, and pulled a knife before forcing him out of the car and fleeing the scene.

Officers quickly located the stolen vehicle using a tracking device. The suspect was found in the 1500 block of Jefferson Street and taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center for processing.

The teen is facing charges in connection with the armed carjacking and assault of a minor.
