Gender Neutral Victim Attacked With Pipe by 13-Year-Old While Sitting on Stoop in Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, NY—A 13-year-old male was arrested on charges including assault as a hate crime, aggravated harassment as a hate crime, and criminal possession of a weapon on Wednesday.

The arrest took place at 10:40 AM on Wednesday.

This incident was reported on Monday, May 13, at around 5:00 PM.

A 33-year-old non-gender conforming victim was sitting on their front steps near Boerum Street and Bushwick Avenue when attacked. The assailant made derogatory comments related to the victim’s sexual orientation before striking them in the head with a metal pipe and fleeing.

The victim suffered head bruising but declined medical treatment at the scene.

The NYPD emphasizes the importance of community support in addressing and resolving hate crimes and urges anyone with information about the Boerum Street assault to come forward.
