Germantown Tutor Charged with Sexual Abuse of a Minor

August 27, 2024

GAITHERSBURG, Md. — A 65-year-old Germantown man has been arrested and charged with sexual abuse of a minor and fourth-degree sex offenses, authorities announced on Tuesday. The suspect, Adi Yousef Najjar, is alleged to have committed the offenses over a nearly two-year period while serving as an Islamic tutor to the victim.

The Montgomery County Child Welfare Services and the Montgomery County Department of Police’s Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) began investigating Najjar on June 4, 2024, following a report of sexual abuse. The reported assaults allegedly occurred between September 2022 and June 2024.

Najjar turned himself in to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit on August 21, 2024, and was released on an unsecured personal bond.

Authorities have released a photo of Najjar and are urging any additional victims who have not yet come forward to contact the police. “Detectives are concerned there may be additional victims of sexual abuse by Najjar,” the Montgomery County Police Department said in a statement.

Anyone with information or who may have been a victim is asked to contact the SVID at (240) 773-5400 or Crime Solvers of Montgomery County at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477). Callers can remain anonymous.
