CRANFORD, N.J. — Chief Ryan Greco of the Cranford Police Department expressed gratitude and relief following a grand jury’s decision not to file criminal charges against two officers involved in a December 2023 shooting incident. The announcement comes after a thorough investigation by the New Jersey Office of Attorney General’s Shooting Response Team.
In his statement, Chief Greco thanked the Attorney General’s team for their detailed examination of the case involving Officers Ryan McSharry and Christopher Folinusz. He also acknowledged the quick actions of the Woodbridge Police Department, New Jersey State Police, Colonia First Aid Squad, and medical staff at University Hospital who provided immediate care to both officers.
“I appreciate the time and care the grand jury dedicated to reviewing the evidence and circumstances surrounding the incident,” Greco said. “Their commitment to a thorough process reflects the importance in our justice system.”
The shooting incident, which took place on December 28, 2023, led to an internal and external investigation to assess whether the officers’ actions were justified. Details surrounding the events leading up to the shooting have not been publicly disclosed.
Chief Greco concluded his remarks by highlighting the risks faced daily by law enforcement. “Each and every day police officers like Christopher Folinusz and Ryan McSharry face perilous split-second situations which could ultimately result in their death. Thankfully in this situation, the officers were allowed to go home to their families,” he said.
The decision from the grand jury brings closure to the investigation, and no further legal action against the officers is anticipated.
