Greene County woman sentenced for kidnapping and covering up boyfriends double murder

HARRISBURG, Pa. — A Waynesburg woman has been sentenced to 10 to 20 years in state prison after pleading guilty to kidnapping and assault charges, as well as helping conceal evidence related to a double homicide committed by her boyfriend, Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday announced Thursday.

Shawna Smith, 26, pleaded guilty to kidnapping, aggravated assault, and conspiracy in connection with a February 14, 2022, incident during which two victims were held at gunpoint inside a Waynesburg home. One of the victims, a woman, was severely beaten—punched, kicked, and stomped repeatedly.

Smith also admitted to tampering with evidence and obstruction of justice for helping conceal shell casings linked to the February 1, 2022, killings of Kevin Williford and Judy Hunter. Those murders were carried out by Smith’s boyfriend, Cortland Rogers, who has since pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder and is serving life in prison.

Authorities say the kidnapping occurred just hours after the murder victims were discovered.

“This defendant was involved in a series of violent acts that terrorized this community,” said Attorney General Sunday. “Thanks to the tireless efforts of the investigators and prosecutors, both defendants have been held accountable.”

Smith’s sentencing is part of a plea agreement with prosecutors.
