Gun goes off during Southwest DC street fight as suspect vanishes

SOUTHWEST DC — A late-night fight in Southwest DC turned dangerous when a man pulled out a gun during a struggle and a shot was fired before one person ran from the scene, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

The incident happened Sunday, April 12, at about 10:33 p.m. in the 3900 block of South Capitol Street Southwest.

Investigators said the suspect became involved in a fight with another individual before producing a firearm during the confrontation.

Police said the two struggled over control of the gun when a single round was discharged. The firearm then fell to the ground.

The unidentified individual fled the area before officers arrived.

No injuries or property damage were reported.

Detectives later recovered surveillance video from near the scene that captured the suspect. MPD released images and video Wednesday as investigators continue working to identify the man involved.
