Gunfire sparks shelter-in-place at Glen Burnie apartment complex

Police activity shuts down Glen Burnie apartment block amid ongoing gunfire investigation.

Police activity at the Americana Southdale Apartments in Glen Burnie prompted authorities to issue a shelter-in-place advisory on Saturday following an ongoing shooting investigation.

According to a social media alert from the Anne Arundel County Police Department, residents in the 7800 block of Americana Circle were urged to remain indoors while officers continued to secure the scene. The department confirmed the active response shortly after 1 p.m. Eastern Time.

“In reference to the continued shooting investigation at the Americana Southdale Apartments in Glen Burnie. Residents in the 7800 block of Americana Circle are encouraged to shelter in place until the area has been deemed safe by officers on scene,” the department said in a Facebook post.

Police have not yet released details on the number of individuals involved or whether there were any injuries. Authorities have also not indicated if a suspect has been apprehended or identified.

Officers remained on site through the afternoon as the investigation continued, and officials advised the public to avoid the area while emergency personnel were present.

Shelter-in-place remains as police secure scene

The incident has caused concern among area residents, with some unable to leave their homes or access parts of the complex. It is unclear when the shelter-in-place directive will be lifted.

Updates on the situation are being provided through the department’s official Facebook and Twitter accounts as officers assess when the area will be safe.

As of Saturday afternoon, no timeline was provided for when the investigation would conclude or when residents could resume normal activity.

Anne Arundel County Police are expected to release more information once the situation is fully stabilized.
