Hamilton man charged with murder after woman found dead in apartment

Authorities say a welfare check led to the discovery of a homicide inside a Hamilton residence.

Hamilton, NJ – A 29-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the death of his girlfriend inside a Hamilton apartment, Mercer County officials announced.

Carlos Pean, 29, was taken into custody on Friday, March 28, in Tinton Falls by members of the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Special Investigations Unit. He is charged with first-degree murder, and prosecutors have filed a motion to detain him pending trial.

The arrest follows an investigation led by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Hamilton Police Division.

Welfare check leads to homicide investigation

At approximately 7 a.m. on March 24, officers responded to an apartment in the first block of Bradford Avenue to conduct a welfare check. Inside, officers located Adeline Alfred, 29, unresponsive in a bedroom.

Authorities said she was the victim of an apparent physical assault and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mercer County Prosecutor Janetta D. Marbrey and Hamilton Police Chief Kenneth R. DeBoskey confirmed the arrest as the investigation progressed.

Suspect located and arrested in Monmouth County

Pean was located days later in Monmouth County and apprehended without incident. Officials said the investigation involved multiple agencies, including federal and county units working together to track him down.

The prosecutor’s office has moved to keep Pean detained as the case proceeds through the court system.
