NEWPORT NEWS, VA — Early this morning, a Chevrolet Impala ran a stop sign, leading to a high-speed chase that ended with the car crashing into a utility pole. The incident began when a Virginia State Police trooper spotted the vehicle ignoring a stop sign and activated his emergency lights and siren. The driver of the Impala then accelerated and shortly after crashed at the intersection of J. Clyde Blvd. and Warwick Blvd.

The male driver escaped on foot from the scene, leaving behind a seriously injured adult male passenger who was later transported to Riverside Regional Hospital. Following the crash, state police, assisted by Newport News Police, established a perimeter to locate the fleeing driver. The search for the suspect continues.

Authorities are urging the public to assist in the ongoing search for the driver. Information can be relayed to Virginia State Police at 804-750-8788, by dialing #77 on a cell phone, or through email at questions@vsp.virginia.gov.
