WASHGINTON, D.C.-Could politicians like Phil Murphy and Gurbir Grewal soon be facing criminal charges for their advancement of sanctuary state directives in New Jersey?
According to Acting ICE Director Thomas Homan, the answer could be yes and he’s already taking action against sanctuary state ground zero, California.
Of politicians who create laws and directives to law enforcement authorities, jails and communities to protect illegal aliens, Homan told Fox News, “We’ve got to start charging some of these politicians with crimes.”
“I think it’s terrible–you got the state of California that wants to put politics ahead of public safety, ahead of officer safety. What they have done is forced my officers to arrest dangerous criminals on their turf, in their homes and places of business, rather than arresting them in the safety and security of a county jail,” Homan said. “It’s ridiculous to annoyingly and intentionally put law enforcement at risk.”
The same could soon start happening here in New Jersey after the Murphy-Grewal sanctuary directives went live on March 15th.
Under those rules, jails will not hold illegal immigrants upon release for ICE agents longer than 24 hours, police cannot ask an individual’s citizenship status and like in California, local police departments can no longer assist ICE agents in apprehending criminal illegal aliens in their home towns.
Homan said states like California and New Jersey are in for a rude awakening if they think ICE is going to just disappear because of their sanctuary status.
“[They] better hold on tight,” Homan said. “They’re about to see a lot more special agents, a lot more deportation hours in the state of California.”
New Jersey has also experienced an increase in ICE activity since the Grewal announced the sanctuary state directive in 2018.
“If he thinks he’s protecting immigrant communities, he’s doing quite the opposite because if he thinks ICE is going away, we’re not. There’s no sanctuary from federal law enforcement.” Homan added. “I’m going to significantly increase our enforcement presence…we’re already doing it.”
