TOMS RIVER, N.J. — Nayely Sanchez, a 32-year-old woman from Howell Township, is being held on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainer in Ocean County after being incarcerated on charges of willful nonsupport for failure to pay more than $12,000 in child support arrears.
Sanchez, who was booked on Tuesday, has been charged under New Jersey statute 2C:24-5, which pertains to willful nonsupport of a dependent. Court records show that Sanchez owes $12,296 in unpaid support. Bond in the case has been set at the same amount, but it has not yet been posted.
Sanchez was taken into custody in Toms River and is currently being held in Ocean County Jail. ICE officials have filed a detainer request, which could lead to her transfer to federal immigration authorities following her release from local custody. According to jail records, Sanchez’s immigration status was flagged during the booking process, though additional details on her citizenship or country of birth were not available.
