Middletown, PA – A Pennsylvania content creator known online as “Drew Disaster” is now facing arson charges after allegedly setting her home on fire in what investigators believe was a suicide attempt, following a series of alarming social media posts.
Drew Mehalick-Headley was identified by Middletown Borough Police as the individual connected to an early morning house fire on Aug. 27. The incident occurred just hours after she published a stream of distressing messages to her followers, signaling emotional turmoil and possible self-harm intentions.
According to court documents obtained by WHP-TV, authorities were tipped off after followers reported that Mehalick-Headley had posted a lengthy, emotional message on Facebook at 8:00 p.m. that evening. “It meant so much to me but I have come to accept the reality that my hurt is too much to carry,” she wrote, adding, “No matter how much I try to avoid it, it seems I will always be a destructive force.”
Additional content posted to her Instagram account — including a now-deleted reel showing her petting her cats while apologizing to them — added to concerns. One deleted caption read, “The pain has just become too heavy to bear… I’m glad that I got it. With love, Drew.”
Emergency crews responded to the blaze in the early morning hours, and investigators soon linked the fire to Mehalick-Headley. Officials have not reported any injuries. Charges were later filed alleging that she intentionally started the fire.
Mehalick-Headley’s online persona “Drew Disaster” had amassed a sizable following for her candid content and commentary, but fans grew concerned as her recent posts became increasingly bleak in tone. The charges come amid growing attention to the mental health pressures faced by digital content creators operating in the public eye.
It remains unclear whether Mehalick-Headley is in custody or has retained legal representation. No bond information has been released as of Thursday.
The status of her two cats, who appeared in her final videos before the fire, has not been publicly disclosed.
