Injured seal rescued in Ventnor treated and released by Marine Mammal Stranding Center

VENTNOR, N.J. — A harbor seal found on a Ventnor beach Thursday morning with bloody flippers was rescued and examined by the Marine Mammal Stranding Center (MMSC), which determined the injuries were superficial.

Ventnor police officers monitored the seal until MMSC’s Stranding Coordinator arrived. The female harbor seal was transported to the center, where an assessment revealed minor abrasions on her flippers and muzzle, none requiring medical treatment.

MMSC reported that the seal was in good overall condition, active, and alert. To track her condition if spotted again, rescuers marked her head with a temporary pink “1” using a non-toxic livestock marker, which will fade over time.

“We appreciate our supporters for helping us always be there for the seals on our beaches,” the center said in a statement.
