Instagram message sparks violent confrontation in Wilkes Barre

Man accused of assault and threats after domestic disturbance on South Franklin Street

WILKES-BARRE, PA — A Saturday morning disturbance on South Franklin Street led to the arrest of a 26-year-old city resident after a physical altercation escalated into threats involving a knife, according to information released by the Wilkes-Barre City Police Department.

Officers were dispatched at 8:56 a.m. for a report of a domestic incident in which a woman was heard calling for help. Before responders arrived, the man involved had left the residence after arming himself with a knife, as reported to dispatchers.

Officers found the man in the backyard of the home shortly after arriving in the area. He fled on foot, prompting a brief pursuit that ended with his apprehension on Elizabeth Street.

According to the victim, the confrontation began over a message on her Instagram account. She told officers that the argument became physical, and she was struck in the face and rib area. She reported that the man threatened to kill her after retrieving a knife and then left the residence.

The man was transported to City Headquarters for processing and arraignment. Wilkes-Barre EMS evaluated and treated the victim at the scene.
