ALLEGHENY COUNTY, PA — Early this morning, the Allegheny County Police Department responded to an officer-involved shooting incident in Ben Avon following an attempted traffic stop gone awry. At approximately 1:34 AM, Avalon Police were engaged in a pursuit after a vehicle with tinted windows attempted to evade a routine traffic stop along Ohio River Boulevard.

The situation escalated when the suspect’s vehicle initially paused but then attempted to flee as police approached. An officer from Ohio Township Police arrived to assist, positioning his vehicle in front of the suspect’s car. When Avalon Police officers approached on foot, the suspect drove towards one of them, making contact but causing no injuries. In response, the officer discharged a single shot, hitting the suspect vehicle’s driver’s side window as it fled towards Pittsburgh.

The suspect vehicle was later found in the Homewood area of Pittsburgh around 6:00 AM, with bullet damage evident. The 25-year-old male driver was also located unharmed. As of now, no charges have been filed. The Allegheny County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is investigating, and findings will be forwarded to the district attorney’s office for further review.
