Jackson Township Mayor Jennifer Kuhn this week met with representatives of Interstate Waste Services to finalize the township’s plan to return to weekly curbside residential recycling services, set to begin in January.
Joining the meeting were Council President Mordechai Burnstein, Council Vice President Giuseppe Palmeri, Department of Public Works Superintendent Shawn Bollinsky, and Jackson Township Recycling Coordinator Kathleen Ficshbach.
According to Mayor Kuhn, the meeting was successful, and the township is moving quickly to begin weekly pickups next month.

To make the new schedule work, officials needed to review the changes to the existing recycling district map required to support the expanded weekly recycling service.
Mayor Kuhn said, “We can now begin ironing out the finer details to make sure this program launches smoothly and successfully.
Councilman Giuseppe Palmeri said he was pleased to see the work and planning underway behind the scenes and is satisfied with how the local government is now operating under Mayor Kuhn’s leadership, hand-in-hand with the township council.
“I had the opportunity to work alongside Mayor Kuhn and Council President Burnstein, as well as the recycling vendor’s ownership and staff, on the rezoning necessary to support our weekly recycling pickups. This represents a significant win for Jackson Township,” Palmeri said. “While much of this effort happens behind the scenes, it reflects the dedication and collaboration required to deliver real results for our community.”
Council President Burnstein said feedback from residents has been overwhelmingly positive and supportive.
“This is something that should have been done a long time ago, but we now have a mayor, Mayor Kuhn, who is willing to put in the hours inside town hall necessary to make sure things happen,” Council President Burnstein said. “That time in town hall is critical to making sure the job gets done right, and on time. In the past, the council was rarely invited to attend such planning meetings. This is how local government is supposed to work, as one unit, for the residents.”
The proposed recycling map is a critical component in ensuring the vendor can meet the operational requirements for weekly curbside recycling, helping Jackson Township modernize its waste management services while supporting environmental responsibility.
“This is another example of this administration and Council working proactively and collaboratively to improve quality of life in Jackson,” added Mayor Kuhn. “We are excited about what this means for our residents and will continue to keep the community informed as this work progresses.”
