Jersey City man sentenced to prison for leading stolen vehicle pursuit in Montville

MONTVILLE, N.J. — A 20-year-old Jersey City man has been sentenced to five years in state prison for his role in a high-speed police pursuit involving a stolen BMW in Montville, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office announced.

Nasir Moses pled guilty on March 17, 2025, to one count of second-degree Eluding and one count of third-degree Receiving Stolen Property. On April 25, Judge Robert Hanna sentenced him to five years in New Jersey State Prison for Eluding, to run concurrently with a three-year sentence for Receiving Stolen Property.

The charges stem from a July 9, 2023, incident in which a Lincoln Park police officer attempted to stop a suspected stolen BMW on Route 202. The vehicle fled at speeds exceeding 90 mph before spinning out on Route 287 North. All five occupants fled on foot, crossing highway lanes and escaping into the woods. Four were apprehended; Moses evaded capture but was later identified as the driver.

The stolen BMW, taken from New York, contained numerous items of stolen property. Moses was arrested in Bergen County on an unrelated matter and transferred to Morris County in September 2024.
