ABERDEEN, Md. — A 14-year-old student at Aberdeen Middle School has been charged with making threats of mass violence after being linked to a bomb threat at the school, the Harford County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.
The threat was reported by another student who informed the school’s resource officer after overhearing two students discussing placing a bomb in a school bathroom. An investigation was launched immediately, according to authorities.
The students, aged 12 and 14, were identified, and a search of their belongings was conducted. While no explosive materials were found, writings and drawings detailing how to make a bomb were discovered in their possession.
The 14-year-old was charged, but the 12-year-old cannot face charges under Maryland law due to their age, officials said.
The Sheriff’s Office praised the student who reported the threat, stating, “Our children deserve a safe place to learn free from threats of violence.” They noted an uptick in threats at schools in recent weeks and assured that each is being thoroughly investigated.
