A juvenile male was shot Friday evening in an isolated incident at Proctor Park, but police say his injuries are not life-threatening and the Boilermaker festivities will proceed as planned.

Utica, NY – The Utica Police Department is investigating the shooting of a juvenile male that occurred Friday evening at Proctor Park.

Police said the shooting happened on July 10 and is believed to be an isolated incident. The victim sustained injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

Major Crimes Unit leading investigation

The Utica Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation and is working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Authorities have not released the victim’s age, identified any suspects, or announced any arrests.

Police said additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Boilermaker events to continue

Because the shooting occurred just before the annual Boilermaker Road Race weekend, city officials sought to reassure residents and visitors that planned events will proceed as scheduled.

The Utica Police Department said it works each year with local, state, and federal law enforcement and public safety agencies to develop comprehensive security plans for the event.

Officials confirmed that both the Boilermaker Expo at Mohawk Valley Community College and the Boilermaker 15K race will continue as planned.
