A woman arrived at a hospital with a gunshot wound after a shooting near one of Monmouth County’s busiest intersections, prosecutors said.
FREEHOLD, N.J. — A 21-year-old Keansburg man has been charged with attempted murder after investigators linked him to a shooting that left a woman wounded in Neptune Township, authorities announced Tuesday.
Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago said Jaiden V. Edwards is charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
The shooting happened Monday at about 5:43 p.m. in the area of the Asbury Park Circle and State Highway 35 South.
Authorities said members of the Neptune Township Police Department responded to reports of gunfire in the area. A short time later, a female victim arrived at a local hospital suffering from a gunshot wound.
An investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Bureau and the Neptune Township Police Department, with assistance from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Gang Unit, identified Edwards as the person responsible for the shooting, according to prosecutors.
Additional details about the circumstances of the shooting, the victim’s condition and a possible motive were not immediately released.
