Kentucky Governor Says J.D. Vance Needs A Female Family Member to be Raped to Understand Abortion

August 20, 2024

The campaign trail got personal this week for Ohio Senator J.D. Vance after an interview with the Kentucky governor went off the rails.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear made some intense comments during a discussion about abortion laws. He was criticizing people like Senator JD Vance, who has referred to pregnancies resulting from rape as an “inconvenience.”

In response, Beshear suggested that Vance and others who support such laws should experience the emotional and psychological impact that victims of rape go through. He used some strong language, saying that if Vance thinks it’s just an inconvenience, maybe he should face the reality of what it feels like.

“I mean, think about what some people have had to go through because of these laws. I mean, Jamie Vance calls pregnancy resulting from rape, inconvenient. Inconvenience is traffic. I mean, make him go through this,” Beshear said during an interview with MSDNC.

JD Vance, naturally, didn’t take kindly to this and fired back on Twitter, accusing Beshear of wishing rape on a member of his family, which turned the whole situation into a very heated public exchange.

“What the hell is this? Why is @AndyBeshearKY wishing that a member of my family would get raped?!? What a disgusting person,” the vice presidential candidate responded.

While Beshear didn’t explicitly wish rape on anyone, his words definitely crossed a line for many, sparking outrage and a back-and-forth that’s still unraveling. The situation highlights the deeply personal and emotional nature of the abortion debate, but it also shows how easily things can escalate when emotions run high.
