Lakewood community raising $25,000 to help 20 year old victim of covid-19

One of the most popular myths circulating social media and the American psyche these days is that COVID-19 is only for those who are old and sick. The reality is, more younger victims are now being claimed by the deadly virus, including 20 year old Lancelot Diaz-Hernandez of Lakewood. He was a well-liked worker at the Gourmet Glatt supermarket in Lakewood.

Today, the Lakewood and surrounding community are on track to raise $25,000 to assist Lance’s family after he succumbed to the coronavirus this week.

“On April 3, 2020 my beloved big brother from another mother, Lancelot Diaz-Hernandez passed away. Lance was only 20 years old,” said Getangely Chavez-G. “He had been battling COVID-19 for approximately 2 weeks in the hospital. His condition worsened, and he developed pneumonia- the leading cause of death for patients with COVID-19. He was put on a ventilator, and unfortunately did not make it through.

He was the most selfless, head strong and caring friend I have ever met, and became one of the closest friend to many others. He lived with his mom (a single immigrant parent) and his older sister. He helped them with money the most he could, he loved them with his whole heart- as he loved anyone in his life. He treated us all like family, and we will forever be grateful for his time on this earth. A true angel on earth. His untimely death is an extreme devastation to his friends and his family. We please ask you to humbly help with anything you can to aid in the relief of medical expenses, funeral expenses, and anything you can donate to help his family with future bills. Lance held much responsibility in helping to pay expenses. He was hard working, working overtime constantly, 6 days a week.
