LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Lakewood Police Benevolent Association Local 71 will roll out its fourth annual Cars for a Cause event this Saturday at ShoreTown Ballpark, bringing together classic rides, community spirit, and charity.
The fundraiser will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring specialty vehicles, food, and family entertainment.
Proceeds from the event will benefit two area nonprofits—Bikur Cholim of Lakewood and Ocean of Love—both dedicated to supporting families facing medical hardships.
The event, founded by Detective Eric Cicerello and organized by officers including Sergeant Kenneth Burdge, Officer Jason Yahr, Officer Stephen Kowaleski, and Chief Greg Meyer, has become one of Lakewood’s most popular community gatherings. Members of the department’s communications, IT, and property units also play key roles in making the day possible.
Bikur Cholim provides aid to patients and families during hospital stays and at home, while Ocean of Love, based in Toms River, offers emotional and financial help to children with cancer and their families.
Rabbi Yehuda Kaszirer of Bikur Cholim expressed gratitude for the PBA’s continued support, calling the partnership a reflection of Lakewood’s compassion and unity. Ocean of Love Executive Director Theresa Segui praised the department’s generosity, noting that such events sustain their mission to help local children battling illness.
Officer Yahr said organizers are eager to bring residents together for a day of fun while giving back to two organizations that “provide compassionate assistance to families facing serious medical challenges.”
Township Committeeman Meir Lichtenstein lauded the collaboration between law enforcement and nonprofits, calling it “heartwarming” and a reminder of Lakewood’s commitment to community service.
Engines will roar, but the real power will come from a town rallying to help its own.
