Routine switch leads to jackpot win for Pennsylvania FAST PLAY player
Hagerstown, MD — A change in routine paid off for a Pennsylvania woman who landed a progressive jackpot after trying a different lottery game during a recent purchase.
The Waynesboro-area resident, who regularly plays FAST PLAY games, decided on April 19 to purchase a Cash Combination ticket instead of her usual selections.
After buying the ticket at a convenience store on Maugans Avenue in Hagerstown, she took it home rather than scanning it immediately. When she later checked it using the Maryland Lottery app, she received a message directing her to visit a retailer.
Realizing something was different, she and her husband sought confirmation and eventually contacted Maryland Lottery officials, where they learned the ticket was a progressive jackpot winner worth $156,581.
The couple claimed the prize April 20 at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
The winner, a retired private security worker, said the purchase was not typical of her usual routine. She and her husband plan to use the winnings for a vacation.
The retailer that sold the ticket will receive a $1,000 bonus. Officials said the progressive jackpot has since reset and will continue to grow with future ticket sales.
