WASHINGTON, DC — A man succumbed to his injuries after being involved in a crash and then driving away from the scene in the 3rd Street Tunnel, police said on Sunday. The incident, involving 48-year-old Ronald Jerome Jordan Jr., occurred on Friday evening as he navigated northbound in a Chevy Malibu tunnel.

According to the D.C. Metro Police Department, Jordan rear-ended a Ford Transit Wagon shortly before 5:30 p.m. but continued driving. In a subsequent attempt to merge back into traffic from the shoulder lane, Jordan’s vehicle mounted the east curb and collided with a light pole.

The Capitol Heights, Maryland, resident was transported to a local hospital, where he later died due to the injuries sustained in the crash.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing, with authorities appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any relevant information to contact detectives at (202) 727-9099 or via the department’s tip line by texting 50411.
