ODENTON, Md. — A man sitting on his front porch early Friday morning wrestled a weapon away from an armed suspect who demanded money in what was later described as a prank, police said.
The incident unfolded just after 1 a.m. in the 600 block of Cadbury Drive, where a male victim told investigators he was approached by a man who brandished what appeared to be a firearm and ordered him to hand over cash.
A struggle erupted between the two, during which the victim managed to take the weapon from the suspect. Responding officers quickly arrived and located the alleged assailant nearby.
Police said the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Robert John Fetz of Odenton, admitted he was pointing a BB gun during what he called a prank. A gray and tan/gold XCP BB gun was recovered at the scene.
Fetz was taken into custody without incident and charged in connection with the attempted citizen robbery.

The victim was not injured during the altercation, and no other individuals were involved. Authorities confirmed that the recovered weapon was non-lethal, but emphasized the seriousness of the situation given the initial appearance of a firearm.
Officers from the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Western District responded to the call and led the investigation on scene.
Fetz remained in police custody Friday morning. No further details regarding his court appearance were immediately available.
The incident is being reviewed as part of standard procedures for weapons-related cases involving public altercations.
