Man found dead on Jersey City street as police launch murder investigation

JERSEY CITY, NJ — Authorities are investigating the death of a 56-year-old man found unresponsive on a Jersey City street Friday morning, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.

At approximately 9:00 a.m. on July 25, Jersey City police were alerted to an injured person near Neptune and Garfield avenues. Officers arrived to find an unresponsive male outside on Neptune Avenue. The man, identified as Joey Richburg of Jersey City, was transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 9:42 a.m.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are conducting a joint investigation. The cause and manner of death are pending the results of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
