Man impersonates twin brother to evade arrest, faces multiple charges — Police Light Traffic Stop

STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — A 21-year-old man’s attempt to avoid arrest by impersonating his twin brother unraveled Tuesday night when deputies uncovered the deception during a traffic stop. The suspect, who initially provided his brother’s identification, now faces a series of charges including identity fraud and providing false information to law enforcement.

The incident began at approximately 11:12 p.m. when Deputy C.D. Quebedeaux responded to a report of a disabled vehicle blocking the Chatham Bridge. The driver, referred to as “twin one,” told the deputy he was experiencing electrical issues with the vehicle. When asked for identification, he handed over the license of his twin brother, “twin two,” claiming to be him.

The deception raised doubts, as the twins were not identical. Deputies noted physical differences between the driver and the photo on the provided ID, prompting additional investigation. First Sergeant D.W. Fetterolf used a law enforcement database to locate twin one’s phone number. When he called the number, the driver’s phone began ringing, confirming their suspicions.

Faced with evidence and questioning, the driver admitted to the ruse, confessing that his own license was revoked due to a prior DUI. The driver was arrested and charged with driving while revoked, unlawful name change, identity fraud to avoid arrest, and providing false information to law enforcement.

He is being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $1,500 secured bond.
