Man Sentenced to 22 Years in Jersey City Shooting Incident

Jersey City, NJ – A man has been sentenced to 22 years in prison for a shooting incident in Jersey City, according to a release from the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office. On a recent Friday, the Honorable Carlo Abad, J.S.C. gave the judgment to Anthony Franklin, a 27-year-old from Jersey City, for a crime that took place on April 5, 2021. Franklin was found guilty of Attempted Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and had previously pleaded guilty to Certain Persons Not to Possess a Weapon and faced sentencing under the Graves Act and No Early Release Act.

Following his conviction on February 23, 2023, Franklin was handed the 22-year sentence in the New Jersey State Prison for the crime in question. In addition to this sentence, he was also given a seven-year term in the same prison for the offense of Certain Persons Not to Possess a Weapon, with both sentences to be served concurrently. The verdict and subsequent sentencing stemmed from a violent event that occurred on April 5, 2021, in the vicinity of Lexington Avenue and Kennedy Boulevard in Jersey City, resulting in injuries to two individuals.

During sentencing, the State was represented by Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Erica Bertuzzi. The case unfolded with the court’s decision culminating in the lengthy prison term for Franklin due to the serious nature and severity of his crimes committed in Jersey City three years ago.
