Manahawkin Woman Pleads Guilty to Stealing $178,000 From Engineering Company

MANAHAWKIN, NJ — Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that on July 1, 2024, Dona Carlo-Tanzola, 51, of Manahawkin, pled guilty to theft before the Honorable Kimarie Rahill, J.S.C. This plea is related to her former employment as an administrative assistant with the engineering firm Horn, Tyson & Yoder, Inc.

At her sentencing on August 30, the State will recommend a five-year term in New Jersey State Prison and restitution of $139,698.56.

An investigation by the Long Beach Township Police Department revealed that between May 2022 and November 2022, Carlo-Tanzola misappropriated checks payable to Horn, Tyson & Yoder by depositing them into her personal bank accounts for personal gain. To conceal her actions, she altered the company’s financial records by deleting paid invoices from client accounts, despite the firm having received payments. In total, Carlo-Tanzola diverted dozens of checks amounting to $178,774.35. Upon confrontation, she made partial restitution.

Carlo-Tanzola was arrested on January 9, 2023, by officers from the Long Beach Township Police Department without incident. She was processed and served with charges via summons pending appearances in Ocean County Superior Court.
