Authorities say an investigation that began during an unrelated case led detectives to uncover alleged online communications between a Marlton man and a 14-year-old girl in Texas.
A Burlington County investigation into alleged online child exploitation has resulted in the arrest of a Marlton man and prompted detectives to determine whether additional minors may have been targeted through online platforms.
The Evesham Township Police Department announced that Shaun Hare, 28, was arrested June 23 following an investigation that originated during an unrelated police matter.
According to investigators, Hare allegedly communicated over a two-month period with a 14-year-old girl from Texas after the two first connected through the OmeTV video chat application. Police allege those communications led to the exchange of sexually explicit material.
Multi-state investigation
After identifying the juvenile, Evesham detectives worked with the Rowlett Police Department in Texas to locate her and confirm her safety.
Authorities said the investigation continued in New Jersey and resulted in Hare’s arrest.
Hare has been charged with first-degree manufacturing child sexual abuse material, third-degree sending obscene material to a minor, third-degree debauching the morals of a child, and third-degree possession of fewer than 1,000 items of child sexual abuse material.
Detectives continue investigation
Investigators said they are continuing to examine whether any other juveniles may have been victimized through similar online communications.
Anyone with information related to the investigation or who believes they may have relevant information is asked to contact Detective Scott Kennedy of the Evesham Township Police Department at kennedys@eveshampd.org or 856-985-6028.
