PIKESVILLE, Md. — A Maryland man has been found guilty of attempted murder and weapons charges following a road rage shooting on Interstate 95 in Howard County, officials announced Friday.
Quwan Lamar Gordon was convicted after a three-day jury trial in Howard County Circuit Court. The charges stem from an August 12, 2024, incident in which he fired a gun during a highway confrontation. Gordon, who is also facing narcotics and weapons charges in Baltimore County, remains in custody at the Baltimore County Detention Center. His sentencing will be scheduled after a pre-sentence investigation.
Maryland State Police Superintendent Colonel Roland L. Butler, Jr. commended investigators for their work in securing the conviction. “The hard work, dedication, and persistence demonstrated by investigators went beyond the initial on-scene investigation and were key in securing a conviction of the individual responsible for a violent confrontation on our highway that could have resulted in a fatality,” Butler said.
The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. when troopers from the Waterloo Barrack responded to a reported shooting on I-95. A truck driver witnessed the altercation and provided police with a photo of the suspect’s vehicle, which matched the victim’s description of a white Volkswagen. The victim was not injured in the shooting.
Investigators from the Maryland State Police Highway Gun Crimes Initiative identified Gordon as the suspect. A search warrant executed at his Owings Mills residence led to the discovery of a loaded handgun and felony amounts of MDMA and fentanyl. Gordon, who has prior felony convictions prohibiting him from possessing firearms, was initially charged with gun and drug violations before additional evidence linked him to the shooting.
