MIDDLE TOWNSHIP, NJ — Mayor Daniel T. Roderick today proudly announced the adoption of the Township’s 2026 budget, marking the third consecutive year that municipal taxes have remained flat under his administration while continuing to deliver major investments in infrastructure, parks, flood mitigation, and community improvements.
The budget reflects what Mayor Rodrick described as a commitment to responsible government, disciplined spending, and strategic investment in the quality of life for Township residents.
“Three years ago, we set out to prove that government could spend less, accomplish more, and protect taxpayers at the same time,” said Mayor Rodrick. “Today, we are delivering on that promise. Taxes remain flat for the third consecutive year, spending remains significantly below the level it was when I took office, and we are making historic investments in our community without asking residents to pay more.”
Since taking office, the administration has reduced municipal spending by millions of dollars. In its first year alone, spending was reduced by approximately 9 percent, representing more than $11 million in savings. Despite record inflation, Township spending remains approximately $6 million lower annually than when Mayor Rodrick first assumed office three years ago.
At the same time, the Township has strengthened its long-term financial position. The administration has paid down approximately $9 million in debt and built the municipal surplus to a record-high $60 million—roughly $20 million higher than the previous all-time high.
“Our financial position is stronger than it has ever been,” Mayor Rodrick said. “A record surplus, lower debt, and controlled spending provide stability for taxpayers while ensuring that we can continue investing in critical projects throughout our community.”
Despite maintaining flat taxes, the Township continues to aggressively invest in infrastructure and public amenities. This year alone, the Township will pave approximately 15 miles of roadway—more than double the amount completed annually prior to this administration.
The Township is also undertaking one of the most significant flood mitigation efforts in its history through the installation of tidal check valves on 70 streets. These Swiss valves are designed to reduce nuisance and tidal flooding in vulnerable waterfront neighborhoods.
Additional quality-of-life investments include the installation of new playground equipment at five park locations, construction of two new parks, development of a new recreational fishing pier in the downtown area, and construction of a new spray park for local families. We also repaved all of our tennis and basketball courts.
“These projects demonstrate that taxpayers do not have to choose between affordability and progress,” Mayor Rodrick said. “We are improving roads, addressing flooding, expanding recreational opportunities, and investing in our neighborhoods while keeping taxes flat.”
The Mayor also noted that the Township has successfully maintained these accomplishments while continuing to honor its contractual obligations to municipal employees, including annual 3 percent salary increases negotiated through collective bargaining agreements.
Mayor Rodrick expressed gratitude to members of the Township Council for their support of the budget and their commitment to responsible governance.
“I want to thank Councilwoman Lynn O’Toole, Councilman Craig Coleman, and Councilman Harry Aber for their partnership and support throughout this process,” said Mayor Rodrick. “I also appreciate the support of every Council member who voted in favor of this budget. Regardless of political differences, everyone recognized that this budget delivers real results for taxpayers and moves our Township forward.”
“This budget represents what can be achieved when government focuses on fiscal responsibility, accountability, and delivering value to residents,” Mayor Roderick concluded. “I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished, and I believe our best days are still ahead.”
