Pickup driver dies after vehicle slams pole and is struck by second vehicle, investigators say
SHARPSBURG, Pa. — A driver suffered a medical emergency behind the wheel, crashed through a busy intersection, and later died after his pickup truck struck a utility pole and was hit by another vehicle, according to Allegheny County Police.
The Allegheny County Police Department’s Homicide Unit and Collision Reconstruction Unit responded Wednesday afternoon to assist with the investigation into the fatal crash.
County 9-1-1 received reports of a two-vehicle collision at approximately 3:26 p.m. at the intersection of 18th Street and Main Street in Sharpsburg.
When first responders arrived, they found an adult male suffering from critical injuries.
The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to preliminary information released by investigators, the man was driving a pickup truck when he experienced a medical emergency.
Police said the pickup traveled through the intersection and struck a telephone pole.
After the initial crash, the victim’s vehicle was struck by a second vehicle.
Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased driver.
Detectives with the Homicide Unit and Collision Reconstruction Unit have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
